The Audi R8 e-tron is the fastest electric car round Nurburgring

A new fastest lap time for electric cars has been set around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe, by the Audi R8 e-tron.

The model, driven by racing driver Markus Winkelhock, completed the 12.92-mile track in an impressive 8:09.099 minutes. To give you an idea of just how quick that is for an all-electric vehicle, the Lamborghini Gallardo was less than 30 seconds faster round the same track at

Michael Dick, AUDI AG Board Member for Technical Development had this to say “The R8 e-tron has given a magnificent demonstration of its potential on the toughest race track in the world. To us, electric mobility has never been about sacrifice, but rather is about emotion, sportiness and driving pleasure”.

The Audi R8 e-tron can accelerate from 0 – 62mph in just 4.6 seconds and usually has a limiter-induced top speed of 124mph, however this was raised to 155mph for the Nurburgring lap. Its electric motor achieves this producing 375bhp and 605lb-ft of torque.audd

The e-tron’s lithium-ion battery stores 49KWh of energy and this, combined with the light weight car parts used on the vehicle, gives it a range of 133 miles. It weighs 1,780kg.

It is really quite incredible just how well Audi have managed to design the R8 e-tron – it performs at an astonishingly high level for an electric vehicle and delivers a truly enthralling driving experience. The lap times of various other supercars around the Nurburgring track are listed below, which really shows just how impressive this feat was for the all-electric R8.
